If you enjoy gardening, perhaps you are considering purchasing a rototiller. Or perhaps you have already purchased a new rototiller and you are beginning to enjoy the benefits of rototilling in your garden. People who purchase rototillers are oftentimes so excited about their new piece of machinery that they overlook one important aspect of owning a serious tool like a rototiller — maintenance. In order to keep your rototiller running in tip-top shape, you will be required to regularly perform maintenance on your rototiller. This includes ensuring that it is oiled and lubed properly. In addition to regular upkeep, there is a strong likelihood that you will have to replace the parts to your new rototiller every so often. One thing that most people need to replace after a couple of years of use is the roller bearing. Like most pieces of equipment that run on wheels, the rototiller requires roller bearings to run true and easily. These bearings can sometimes be tuned up through oiling and lubing, but even those bearings which are maintained regularly will eventually wear out. By replacing the bearings on your rototiller you will notice a measurable difference in the ease with which you operate your rototiller. In addition to the bearings themselves, it is oftentimes necessary to replace the bearing casings as well. It would be a good idea to have an extra set of bearings and bearing casings on hand should the event arise in which you need to replace them.
It is oftentimes necessary to replace the clutch cable on rototillers. This is especially true for rototillers which have several gears. Due to the rugged nature of operating a rototiller, it is not uncommon for people to wear out the clutch cable, rendering the rototiller inoperable. To be fully prepared, you might consider having an extra clutch cable on hand.
One thing that you can probably count on replacing is the tines. The tines are the blades which do the actual tilling, so they are oftentimes the first thing to go on a rototiller. It is impossible to avoid every rock and root when tilling the earth, so the tines oftentimes wear out over time. While it is sometimes possible to have the tines sharpened, you may have to eventually replace them. This job is sometimes best suited for a professional rototiller repairman but for those who are mechanically inclined, having an extra set of tines on hand is not a bad idea.
It is also common to have to replace seals and gaskets on rototillers. Just like with cars, these seals wear out over time and lead to oil and gas leaks. Especially because rototillers are used to perform difficult jobs, these seals and gaskets wear out quickly. Every rototiller owner should have extra seals and gaskets on hand to prevent oil and gas leakage.
By having extra parts on hand you can be prepared to handle any situation that may arise while gardening with your rototiller.
